Jean "Jehan" Prouvaire

STARFLEET CANON::

➷ Born on Beta Aquilae II, Alpha Quadrant; his father was there on a training assignment, and his mother had followed. She died of medical complications when he was three, and Jehan was sent back to Earth while his father finished his tour of duty.
➷ Grew up in Fontvieille, Bouches-du-Rhône at his Grandmaman's house, where his Uncle was the only other resident. He is very attached to both, as they saw to his education and catered to the growth of most of his hobbies.
➷ Began picking up Xenolinguistics from the few tourists they'd get on their way to or from daytrips to Montpellier or Avignon, Nîmes or Remoulins; he'd meet them in the open-air farmer's marketplaces his archaic little town was famous for. By middle school, he had taken a part-time job trading in the vegetable stalls over the summer, to be able to chat with them.
➷ Learned the following languages in lower school: French, English, Vulcan. Learned the following languages in Starfleet Academy: Romulan, Klingon. Self-Taught in the following languages: Sign (because really now), Talaxian (for the inexplicable proverbs, and because the 'old tongue' just sounds so neat), Ferengi (because they have 178 words for rain).
➷ Joined Starfleet, per his father's wishes; taking the entry test two years earlier than most candidates, and passing.
➷ Majored in Xenolinguistics, and minored in Exoarchaeology; not at all per his father's wishes, who would have preferred Advanced Theoretical Physics & Probability Mechanics.
➷ TA'd the Advanced Botany course in his fourth year, with a recommendation and some strong-arming, he can't help but think from Bahorel.
➷ Was Bahorel's roommate all four years of Starfleet Academy, and considers the instructor his closest friend outside of family. Wrote the majority of his essays for him, without being asked or letting him know that he had.


PERSONAL CANON::

➷ Is in a long-term relationship because he lost a bet about how wonderful long-term relationships are. It's a long story. You can read about it in his diary.
➷ Keeps diaries, journals, and jot books; all of them physically paper, written on with in, and hand, bound by himself. He takes immense pleasure in making, up-keeping, and writing in them.
➷ Has had three of his poems published, but is reluctant to show anyone; he mostly writes specific verses for specific people, though he hopes to one day retire from Starfleet and do it full-time.
➷ An only child, and somewhat spoiled by his extended family. Has some difficulty communicating with his father, though. Which he finds ironic. And sad.
➷ Collects old books of poetry and plays, and compares 20th Century linguistic patterns to current ones in his spare time, for fun.
➷ Often tongue-tied by shyness. Really, there's just a lot of irony happening.
